Friends

Whenever I say the word friend, I instantly go back to the old school song asking how many of us have them, and find myself chuckling. In life, we cannot walk alone, we all have people in our lives to support along the way. It’s been said that people are in our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime; I however like to put friends in 6 categories - gate friends, backyard friends, living room friends, dining room friends, kitchen friends, and bedroom friends. I think you can see where I’m going with this right?!?!? Picture a compound fenced in, a large house in the middle, a large backyard, and then the rooms in the houses.

Gate friends - there are people we see outside going by daily, call out to them, “how are the kids?”, etc, maybe you exchange a few words, you know something about them, but no real details.

Backyard friends - then there are those you give a little more information to, you bring them into your space, but you hang out in the yard, you maybe bring some snacks and drinks out, etc.

Living room friends - now this category of people are closer, you spend more time together, they really know you, and you know them, but there are still levels of things you don’t reveal to them.

Dining room friends - see, we’re getting closer, intimate, sharing a meal, maybe sharing from one big bowl, this set of people are “your people”

Kitchen friends - the kitchen is often seen as one of the most intimate places in the home right, so you know if they made it here, they are special to you.

Bedroom friends - now this is intimacy, how many people do you let into your bedroom (or should I say “should you”), there are only a select number of friends/people that reach this level.

It is important you know where you rank in people’s lives, and where they rank in yours, not every level is for everyone…..be wise.
